Side Effect of Benzocaine
1. Excessive use of anesthetics (such as benzocaine/benzocaina) can increase the reflux of gastric contents or oral secretions into the respiratory tract by releasing nauseous reflux, thereby increasing the risk of pulmonary aspiration.
2. Applying oral anesthetics and drinking beverages before going to bed can be particularly dangerous.
3. Oral benzocaine products have been shown to cause methemoglobinemia, a disease that reduces the amount of oxygen carried in the blood. This side effect is common in children under 2 years of age.
